Have you ever wondered what the life of a vampire is like? Have you ever thought of the problems and rejection a vampire might have to cope with? Would you make friends with a vampire, if you ran the risk of ending up as a midnight snack?
The White Horse Theater presented an equally funny and serious play about a vampire family moving into a new neighbourhood. The Smith family, an ordinary family in an ordinary town in which just no things out of the ordinary happen or rather are not allowed to happen, consist of the two parents and a son, Rick, who is, by himself, not really interested in “ordinary“ life. He is not as prejudiced, not as narrow-minded, not as dumb as his parents and soon he has made friends with Phylthia, the vampire girl. Her house is a very creepy and dreary place. There are coffins and blooddrinks and Count Spatula, the father, who actually sleeps during the day.  What if he appears from his coffin and smells........blood?
Is Rick safe?  Are his parents safe and are the students watching the play safe? As Phylthia and Rick start falling in love with each other, it is for sure that there would be problems.  But is their lovestrong enough to overcome the obstacles of their “difference“? Of course the parents are outraged.  How could that happen?  It is their son!  However, in the end, racism, prejudice and suspicion towards strangers cannot win. The play “Neighbours with Long Teeth“ is a play which is not only entertaining but also about a serious topic. It is about us and how we sometimes use to treat people we don't know.  Not everything that is different is bad or evil! Most people are, for one reason or another, worth knowing and as for those who are not worthy, it is maybe interesting to know why.  And those students who were not eaten by Count Spatula (Thank God everyone survived!)  enjoyed or didn‘t enjoy the play, learned something from it or didn't learn anything and life went on. And if, someday, there are vampires moving into their neighbourhood, maybe those students are not as helpless, confused and rejecting as the Smith family was in the first place.
